NOTICE REGARDING THE COLLECTION OF CHILDREN’S INFORMATION

MasterNotes, LLC (“MasterNotes,” “we,” “our,” or “us”), is committed to protecting the privacy of children who use our services online.

 

In accordance with the United States Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (“COPPA”) and other applicable law, parents and legal guardians of children must consent to certain collections, uses, and disclosures of the personal information of their children collected by us through our services. This Notice Regarding the Collection of Children’s Information (or “Notice”) describes our practices of collecting, using and disclosing personal information from children, and supplements our Privacy Policy, which can be found at https://masternotes.com/privacy-policy/.

 

MasterNotes offers an online platform on which children can participate in music classes offered by instructors contracted with MasterNotes. As part of these services, we will collect the personal information of your child. In order to provide your child with access to MasterNotes’ services, your consent is required for the collection, use, and disclosure of your child’s personal information and we have collected your information in order to obtain this consent. We will not collect your child’s personal information unless you consent. However, if you do not give your consent, your child may not use our services.

 

We collect personal information about your child:

  • from you at the time of creating a MasterNotes account for your child. This information may include your child’s name, age, information regarding their instrument(s), abilities with regard to the instrument(s), and name of instructor;
  • directly from your child when your child provides it to the instructor; and
  • automatically, as your child navigates through our website. This can include information about your child’s use of the services, including information about or sent by the mobile device or computer used by the child (e.g., IP address, browser type, operating system, website usage data, unique device identifiers, physical location of the device, etc.).

 

We use that information:

  • to provide and personalize our website and its content to you and your child;
  • to provide you with information, or services that you or your child request from us;
  • to support, develop, troubleshoot, and debug our website, and services;
  • to create, maintain, customize, and secure your account with us;
  • to process your requests, purchases, transactions, and payments and prevent transactional fraud;
  • to provide you with notices about your account, including expiration and renewal notices;
  • to provide you with support and to respond to you or your child’s inquiries, including to investigate and address you or your child’s concerns and monitor and improve our responses;
  • to personalize you and your child’s website experience and to deliver content and service offerings relevant to your interests, and via email or text message (with your consent, where required by law);
  • to help maintain the safety, security, and integrity of our website and services, databases and other technology assets, and business;
  • for internal testing, research, analysis, and product development, including to develop and improve our website, and to develop, improve, or demonstrate our services;
  • auditing relating to a current interaction with you or your child and concurrent transactions;
  • detecting security incidents, protecting against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity, and prosecuting those responsible for that activity;
  • debugging to identify and repair errors that impair existing intended functionality;
  • to carry out our obligations and enforce our rights arising from any contracts entered into between you and us, including for billing and collection;
  • to notify you about changes to our website or services we offer or provide though it;
  • to allow you or your child to participate in interactive features on our website;
  • in any other way we may describe when you provide the information;
  • to fulfill any other purpose for which you provide it; and
  • for any other purpose with your consent.

 

 

We share that information:

  • with our subsidiaries and affiliates, contractors, service providers, and business partners, including our data hosting and data storage partners, analytics providers, technology services and support, data security advisors, and professional advisors, such as auditors, law firms, and accounting firms;
  • to fulfill the purpose for which you it;
  • to a buyer or other successor in the event of a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of our assets;
  • to enforce our rights, such as enforcing any applicable terms and conditions and Terms of Use, to ensure the safety and security of our services and our users and to otherwise defend against claims or to protect our rights, employees, or property;
  • to comply with the law or respond to government or regulatory requests;
  • for any other purpose disclosed by us when you provide the information; and
  • with your consent.

 

We may also disclose de-identified or anonymous information, so that it cannot be reasonably used to identify any individual, with third parties for marketing, advertising, research, or other purposes permitted by law.

 

Before we collect any personal information from your child, we will obtain your verifiable parental consent by requiring you to create the online account and collecting your first and last name, home address, contact email address, contact telephone number, and driver’s license information to verify your identity as the child’s parent or legal guardian or through another method acceptable under applicable law for obtaining verifiable parental consent. By checking the applicable boxes on the registration page when creating a MasterNotes account for your child, you consent to our collection, use, and disclosure of your child’s personal information, as outlined in this Notice and our Privacy Policy.

 

A parent or legal guardian may revoke this consent at any time. However, once consent is revoked, a child may not use our online services again unless a new consent is obtained.
